A key component of Rebuilding Calumet is the expansion of housing opportunities for the entire community. With over 181 City-owned vacant lots, totaling approximately 17 acres, the Calumet neighborhood is prime for redevelopment. These properties, owned by the City of East Chicago, offer the opportunity to build 100-120 new modern apartments, duplexes and single-family homes.

Rebuilding Calumet is working with local, state and federal partners to identify funding and programs to encourage private investment, fund renovations of existing homes, and offer homeownership opportunities to local residents. The following programs are currently available:
